Some of the Innovative methods i developed to train/teach childern learn Alphabets...!

It happened so few days back our neighbor wanted me to teach there 5 year old little boy ,
How to read and write Hindi...! well it is indeed a new experience for me because i have only thought children who know to read and write and have only helped in there school "Home works and project work for my brother" , So definitly this was a challenge to me...!
I am no Good School Teacher neither a professional Educationist.......! i am just a general psychologyst who was working as a training coordinator with one of the major telecom Giants and now a home maker, and volunteer 2 days in a week in the library...,

Teaching this child gave me an amazing opportunity to explore myself...!
some one have rightly said that "share your knowledge in order to learn or explore yourself."

Here are some of the tips to make learning fun and educative at home:-

1. Trust the child, Have trust on the child's ability.

2. Know what the child enjoys most... relate what you are teaching to those things that child really relate to.
3. Include many pictures related to the alphabets.

4. Give an opportunity for the child to frame his own words or names, with the alphabet he/she has just learnt. (eg:- you have thought him letter "A" allow the child to form words with A:- Allen, Amanda,Apple,Aeroplane...likewise.)

5. Praise and give a positive feedback if he is correct, and wait...... Suppose if the child makes mistake,
    Encourage him for trying but gently tell that cant be and explain why the example was not appropriate to the alphabet.

6. For Parents who speak other languages at home for eg:- Spanish; Chineese;Hindi;Kannada; Tamil etc... It is important for parents to teach the child your mothertongue first completely, please dont force the child to speak other language; insted expose the child to the Universal language (English) Children learn faster when you dont force them, allow the kids to watch lot of educational and fun programes/ Read the books for them, and slowly introduce the word used in Englis/ Hindi and relate it to your mothertongue.

7. Childern normally enjoy colors ; Draw or write the Alphabet in block and ask them to colour, If you are intersted you can draw simple picture, for eg : A-- Apple... Write A in block Letter and then Draw an simple apple and lethim color.

8. Write 2 Block letters of same alphabets and ask them to colour 1 alphabet in one single colour and the other let the child be creative let him color what ever he prefers.

9. Prepare Flash cards at home i prepared simple flash cards to teach him :) here is the picture of it;

If Drawing is not a thing you would enjoy doing you get many flash cards or charts in shop you can use those, But I suggest It would be fun if you do it with the child or you do it at home, you can tell him/her that , it was made specially for him, he would definitely be more amused...! 

10. Teach children with Games; You can use "Fish Bowl " method, place several sight words or letters and, Give the child a pencil with a string hanging from the end like a fishing rod, to the tip stick a 2 sided sticker or roll few inches of  Scotch tape with the sticky side up. Now, tell the child to fish out of the bowl. * If fishbowl is nota in thing for you, prepare chits and ask him to pick the word or alphabet. Trust me child enjoys that, even i had doubts but it did excite him...!

11. Allow the child to choose his own pen, pencil, marker, Notebooks, this creates an excitement for child to work with his favorite things.

12. Teach only 4 alphabets per day if the child is fast; else, teach 2 alphabets per day.

13. I thought 4 alphabets per day and after teaching swar in hindi alphabets, you call Veouls in English;

      i thought him just first 5 alphabets from Vyanjen--- Consonents in english,

14. Now,dontgo for the second set of vyanjens instead, teach the child to form 2 letter words from swar and vyanjens which he has learnt.

15. Teach the child to observe the various sounds you make while pronouncing the Word/Alphabet, Children learn a lot from imitation.

16. Teach them funny sounds that can be made using the alphabet, sounds funny but trust me it works and it inspires the child to learn.

17. try to make the alphabet sound like music.

18. Dont introduce the word Test and fear of exams; just tell them lets check how many number of "Hits and Misses he does".

So friends these are simple methods i have been experimenting every day with the child, will update some more if some thing new strikes me and if it clicks for me. :)
